- Double services: A funeral that involves gatherings with the coffin present at two locations, generally an indoor venue and a burial in a cemetery at another location
PLAN WITH PREPAID FUNERALS
A prepaid funeral allows you to pay at today’s prices, protecting you from future cost increases while easing the emotional and financial challenges for your family. Prepaying can also reduce your assessable assets, with up to $15,750 invested in a funeral bond exempt from the Centrelink Asset Test as of July 2025.
We offer flexible payment options, including upfront or instalments, so you can plan in a way that suits your circumstances. Your investment is protected by legislation, and you have the freedom to update arrangements if your needs change. Optional Away From Home Cover can also assist with costs if a death occurs while travelling.

What happens when an unexpected death occurs?
If someone dies unexpectedly at home, in a hospital, or in a public place, the death may be referred to the State Coroner’s Office. In these situations, you may also want the immediate support of a funeral director. Kings Funerals will liaise directly with the Coroner’s Office on your behalf and keep you informed.
Can services be held outside the Newcomb Chapel?
Yes. We can arrange funerals at locations that hold special meaning, such as sporting clubs, wineries, family homes, parks, churches, or other venues. Our team ensures all logistics are managed smoothly, so you can focus on the funeral.
Do all funerals follow the same structure?
No, each funeral is unique. We work with families to create a service that reflects the personality, values, and life of the person who has died. This can include traditional ceremonies, modern memorials, or a blend of both.
How do I arrange a funeral if someone dies at home, hospital, or aged care facility?
At home, call the person’s doctor or palliative care team first, then contact Kings Funerals on (03) 5248 3444 (24/7). If the death is unexpected, the Police or Coroner may also be involved. In hospitals or aged care facilities, staff usually notify the doctor and, if you’ve nominated Kings, they’ll contact us directly.
How much does a funeral cost?
Funeral costs depend on the type of service you choose. Along with cemetery or cremation fees, there may be costs for flowers, catering, notices, or clergy. Our service fees cover paperwork, staff, transfers, and professional care. We’ll explain all costs clearly when planning the funeral so there are no surprises.
What is embalming, and is it required?
Embalming is the process of preserving a body for viewing or delayed services. It is optional and usually only necessary for specific circumstances, such as long-distance transport.
What are prepaid funerals?
Prepaid funerals allow you to arrange and pay for your service in advance. This can reduce the emotional and financial concerns for your family and ensure your wishes are documented. Prepaid arrangements may also provide Centrelink pension protection for eligible funeral bonds.
